We had a strong group for today's hike at Pine Mountain.  We hiked both the West and East loops and visited the David Archer overlook at the top of each of our two climbs to the Pine Mt summit. Leaving the parking lot, we headed up the left side of the West loop, making quick work of the steep climb thru the rocks and Fat Man's Squeeze.  At the overlook, we viewed Lake Allatoona to the east, and Cartersville to the west.  In the distance we could also see Buckhead, midtown and downtown and a bit closer, Kennesaw Mountain.

Next we headed down the east loop, passing through Whiskey Hollow before starting the long climb up the left side of the loop.  It was hot and humid so we took our time on the climb before reaching the overlook for the second time.  After a well deserved break, we headed back down the west loop and back to the cars, ending our 5.5 miles hike, climbing about 1600 feet of gain.

We had a brand new member of the AOC on today's hike.  Welcome Keith C.  We look forward to seeing you on future AOC events.  ~ Holt
