Write Up:

Thanks to Bobby for setting up this special and memorable AOC bicycling event. We thirteen had a great time together and have dozens of colorful photos to show for it.  By arriving at the Gardens at 2:00 PM we had time to enjoy leisurely rides to the lovely Chapel and Butterfly Center - then took in the exciting lakeside “Birds of Prey” raptor show, where a barred owl, a great horned owl and two large hawks literally brushed the tops of our heads as they flew back and forth between their trainers and their various roosts.  Some of us then biked over to the Sibley botanical garden & greenhouses where we enjoyed the amazing plants, beautiful “poinsettia Christmas trees” and topiary gingerbread men & women.  Toward the end of our Sibley center visit we got fantastic shots of a wild great blue heron “posing” in the evening glow by a reflective pool.  We then joined more than 200 men, women and cute kids for the main “Christmas music & lights” 5-mile twilight bike ride.  After the big ride we enjoyed an encore of the “Fantasy in Lights” route in the darkness as we exited the Gardens in our cars.  Before heading home  we gathered for a delicious and festive group dinner at “Cricket’s Restaurant” near the Gardens’ Hwy 18 entrance in Pine Mountain, GA.

We welcome all of our riders emailing me the links to their various online photo albums which I’ll be glad to post below this archive for all to enjoy.

Thanks to my friends and co-leaders Sharon Hartnett and Thomas Wolff who did a fine job helping all of us enjoy the trip its many fun activity options.  We were more than happy to fill in for Bobby to greet and guide the group - wishing him a speedy recovery from the flu.

Have a Terrific Twenty-Thirteen!
