Itinerary:

The "BER" months are almost upon us...SeptemBER, OctoBER....BER standing for Backpacking Endless Routes! And for me really the only time to backpack is the BER months (and the other BURRRR months!). #HateHotBPing, even tho it's slated to be WARM Thursday, it's good training....at least you don't have to sleep in the heat

Join me for an after work 2 hour backpack training event* ideally for future BP'ing events that I plan on hosting..or for just getting stronger. We'll meet a little before 6 p.m. to do intros, weigh ins and such and we'll be on the way RIGHT AT 6 for about 6 miles...we'll be moving for 2hours at 3 mile/hr pace or quicker.

This event will see some nice elevation and various terrain, as I take you along what I affectionately dub my "training grounds!" Conditions have been a little sloppy, so be prepared for some loose terrain - trekking poles are always advised. Our pace is typically in the 18-20 min pace with weight....so if that's not your normal pace, might wanna look at a different event.
*THIS IS A BACKPACKING TRAINING EVENT: Everyone is to wear a backpack with gear in it that weighs at least 20 pounds (it adds up quick, so don't think you have to have a monster 80L pack on..unless you want to).
Know that going in to this...you must have a pack on your back...even if it's a camelbak with 10# of sand in it...I will have a scale ;)
Yes, you can also attempt a 50 pound pack, if you feel up to it...only as long as you don't get injured...let's try easing in to this...injuries are no fun!

Conveniently located in historic Roswell, GA, the historic "Vickery Creek" unit of the Chattahoochee River Nat'l Recreation Area (CRNRA) boasts an amazing variety of shady creekside and ridgetop trails and is one our Club's favorite places for hiking (mine for sure). We'll be re-grouping at the top of the bigger climbs, but there are no formal stops planned (we'll play that by ear).

Required Items to Bring:

Backpack w/ at least 20# of gear, sand, dog food or whatever you can find....be sure it's not a dumb bell wrapped in a towel!
Water - A must!
Post event snack...bev?
...you know yourself the best, just be prepared!

Recommended Items to Bring:
Use our Event Checklists to make sure you have everything you need.

great pair of broken in shoes is a plus
trekking poles or walking stick
Sunscreen
Hat
Rain Gear - yep if it rains we still go :P

How to Get There:
Event Directions:

We will meet in the upper parking lot at the Groveway Park area above the Roswell Aquatic Center

198 Frank Lewis Dr. Roswell, GA 30075  #GTS - it will get you close.

There are restrooms at this location + the lot is paved.

Arrive 10-15 minutes early to get head count and intros in. The GPS link above is pretty accurate too...look for the Lil Sasquatch :P
