Itinerary:

Please come join us for an AOC Volunteer Trail Maintenance day at Sawnee Mountain. Lots of AOC friends have joined me on Sawnee Mountain hikes before and it's time we pay Mother Nature back and help with some trail maintenance. I hope to get the skinny from Jason (Trail Maintenance guy with Forsyth County Parks and Rec) on the soon to be cut new trails at Sawnee Mountain. Apparently there are plans to add six or seven more miles of trails.

The County will provide all tools and gloves if you need them (although I recommend bringing your own). Jason will carry our tools and a large container of ice water in a Gator to the work location. Please bring your own refillable water container.

Wear something you don't mind getting dirty. I recommend bug spray and sunscreen if you're suseptible to burning (although the trails are very shady). Also, as a bonus, I've never seen one sprig of poison ivy along these trails.

Located north of Atlanta in Cumming, Georgia, Sawnee Mountain Preserve provides visitors with 963 acres of scenic passive space, hiking trails and an interactive Visitor Center. The Visitor Center serves as the administrative home for the Outdoor Division of Forsyth County Parks and Recreation. There are two visitor's centers, please meet at the Spot Road one.

Visitor Center hours: M-F 8:30 AM-5:00 PM
Preserve hours: S-S 8:00 AM-Dark

Dogs are not allowed at this park.
