Itinerary:

ADVANCED HIKERS ONLY- 16 mile roundtrip dayhike.

(Plan for 1 hr 15 min. drive to get there, 8 hours max of hiking/lunch/breaks and 1 hr 15 min. drive back to carpool)

Join us for a challenging hike to Springer Mountain and the start of the Appalachian Trail.  We should see several thruhikers who are beginning their quest to Maine.  The trailhead begins at the top of Amicalola Falls.  We'll hike 8.1 miles on a fairly challenging trail with several steep uphill sections.  We'll take a short break for lunch at the summit of Springer Mountain. We'll hike back the same we came, until we reach a fork which will take us to the Len Foote Inn.  We will stop at the Inn for a short break before heading back to the park.

I've rated this as a fast paced hike, but we'll be shooting for somewhere between moderate and fast.  We'll spend 20 minutes or so eating lunch on top of Springer Mountain and then take another extended break of 20 minutes or so at the Hike Inn on our return trip.  That means we have to keep the pace moving the rest of the time.

If you sign up, I may contact you to make sure you have the fitness level to keep up with the group.  Please understand that I am doing this for everyone's benefit.
