Hike/Jog & Party with the Wacky Hash House Harriers!

IN A NUTSHELL: Many of you AOCers have enjoyed joining me over the past few years for various "Hash House Harrier" events including their huge annual New Years Day "Cheddarhead."  It's lots of fun helping one another follow the trail of a "pretend hare" - usually blotches of baking flour on pavement, tree trunks, etc.  Our reward for staying on the sometimes tricky trail is a festive outdoor party with plenty of refreshments, munchies, singing, etc!
  Due to popular demand we're offering you another chance to join fellow AOCers for a "hash"—this time with our friends in the “Slow Old Bastards” hash group.  (Despite the name there are lots of younger adults in the group, by the way!)  The "SOBs" meet at 1:30 every other Sunday - usually in the parking lot of a designated metro Atlanta shopping center or mall.  This Sunday the 1:30 PM meetup spot will be the Sage Hill Shopping Center parking lot in NE Atlanta near Emory University - see precise Directions and GPS address below.
  Our pace on an SOB hash is normally a combination of moderate to fast walking and (optionally) slow jogging over a distance of only about 3 miles - shorter and easier than most hashes.
  No funds are collected by the AOC, but if you decide to take part (after you arrive at 1:30 PM at the Start)  bring $8  to chip in to the SOBs' “hash cash” registrar for your fair share of the bountiful refreshments and munchies at the party.
  There are optional free vehicle shuttle rides after the party get everyone safely back to the Start - for most SOB hashes it's no more than a 2-mile drive from the "On-In" party.  Often some of us prefer walking back, which is a good option if any of us has to leave the party early and the "Hare" can easily provide directions for the most direct walking route via sidewalks, etc.

A LITTLE BACKGROUND on "HASHING": The Hash House Harriers are a worldwide network of thousands of outdoor recreation enthusiasts who enjoy a non-competitive running/jogging/walking sport called “hashing" (nothing to do with hashish, by the way!)  For each “hash” event a designated volunteer “hare” lays a trail, usually by leaving splotches of white flour every 30 or 40 yards or so through parks, woods, residential neighborhoods, etc. The remaining “harriers” or “hashers” help one another follow the hare's trail (yelling "On-On" when they're sure they're on the trail) until it eventually leads them to a secret party location called the “On-In.” Along with great munchies & refreshments (including both nonalcoholic and alcoholic drinks) every hash has lots of friendly socializing, bawdy drinking songs - also obligatory “down-downs” (fast drinking or chugging) of various libations for the hare, newcomers, “rule violators,” etc.  Be forewarned that the hashers' songs, "hash nicknames" and language can often be considered "R--rated"!

Step-by-step Directions from the I-85 North Druid Hills Rd Exit (Exit #89):
1. Take North Druid Hills Rd eastward (toward Decatur) about 1/2 mile to the traffic light at Briarcliff Rd.
2. Turn Right (southwestward) onto Briarcliff Rd and go about 2 miles to Sage Hill Shopping Center on your left (just past the traffic light at Clifton Rd).
3. Look for others wearing jogging clothing - likely in the farthest western end of the parking lot near the U.S. Post Office.

No Money is collected by the Atlanta Outdoor Club for this event.  After you arrive at the Hash "Start" location if you decide you'd like to participate in the Hash (including the Party) pay $8 in cash (preferably a $5 bill and 3 ones) to the Hash House Harriers' "Hash Cash" registrar to cover your share of munchies and refreshments. (Pay and register between 1:30 and 2:00 PM in the designated "Start" parking lot.)
