Itinerary: | |||||||
Begin Thanksgiving Day with a hike at Island Ford. We will cover 5-6 miles at a moderate pace by heading over to the river trail and then adventure up a few of the back hills and loop around. We'll stop to enjoy the scenery and hydrate, but expect to keep a steady pace throughout the hike. We will meet at the Visitor Center parking lot which is at the END of Island Ford Parkway. Definition of a D2 hike: Gentle to moderate elevation gain 400 to 1000 feet, moderate pace generally 4-6 miles. We'll start the hike promptly at 9:00 am. Please arrive at least 10 minutes early to meet everyone before we start. Up to 2 dogs can come on the hike. Please register your dog when you RSVP. You must use a leash at all times in accordance with the Park rules. If you do not have an annual CRNRA parking pass, you will need to purchase the $3 daily pass at the pay station in the parking lot. Do not leave any valuables in your car including the trunk since vandalism has happened in the past.
