Itinerary:

Sweetwater Creek State Park is one of the most visited state parks in Georgia. It is also one of my favorite places to hike. The park has some amazing trails that parallel Sweetwater Creek with rocks to scramble across, rugged trails to hike that have quite a few twists and turns that keep it interesting. The steep slopes and hills also provide a nice cardio bonus for the hike.  

For this event, we are  hiking 12-miles (all of the trails:  red, white, blue and yellow) with few breaks at a moderate to fast pace to increase our endurance.  While several parts of the trail are streneous and steep, the trail does not have the elevations of a mountain and is listed as a D4.  However, tthis hike is challenging, fun and requires some endurance.  Since this is a streneous D4, it is not suitable for beginners.

To register for this event, you must have hiked a streneous D3 or a D4 fairly recently.

How to Get There:
Event Directions:

Take I-20 west to exit 44 (Thornton Road). Make a left on Thornton Road (South) and then a right onto Blairs Bridge Road. Travel 2.1 miles to Mount Vernon Road and make a left. Drive about one mile to the park entrance and make a left on Factory Shoals Road. Drive about half a mile to the parking lot near the visitor's center.

Hike: We will meet in the parking lot  by the visitor's center

When you turn into the park continue straight to the end to the visitor's center parking lot.
