Itinerary:

Everybody that has ever tasted the Lenfoot Hike Inn's hot chocolate, lemonade, or coffee agrees: This is heaven!

Now, how cool is that?

This is a difficult loop hike, but we will be going at a moderate pace. We will stop and regroup at strategic points, like the turn from the AT approach trail to the Hike Inn Trail.

Meet-up time is 9:30 a.m. just inside the Amicalola Falls State Park Visitor's Center. We will start our hike from the visitor's center and walk up the 425 stairs to the parking lot on top of the falls. We will then hike the AT Approach Trail northward. This trail has a lot of ups and downs with the steepest uphill being Frosty Mountain.

We will have our well-deserved lunch break at the Hike Inn. With it being such a nice day, we will have plenty of time to look around a bit and enjoy the scenery. The Inn does not serve lunch to dayhikers but will sometimes have dessert or fruit for some tips. However, it is best to bring your own lunch. 

From the Inn we will continue southward 5 miles to the top of the falls via the Len Foote Trail. From there, we will again take the steps down to the parking lot.

Please check with the trip leader before you leave so that everyone is accounted for. I don't want to leave anybody behind.

Also note that there is a $5 GA DNR parking fee per vehicle at Amicalola Falls State Park - unless you display an annual pass.

 

**** This hike is for those who already have demonstrated ample D4 hiking experience with several D5 hikes. I will contact you if I feel that this hike may be to difficult for you.****

How to Get There:

DIRECTIONS from GA-400/ I-285 INTERCHANGE in N ATLANTA (Sandy Springs) to AMICALOLA FALLS STATE PARK (about 60 miles or 90 minutes):

1.  From the GA-400/ I-285 interchange go North on GA-400/US-19 N about 42 miles to the traffic light at GA-136 (a.k.a. Harmony Church Rd).
2.  Turn Left off GA-400 onto GA-136 and follow it westward about 17.3 miles.
3.  Bear Right onto GA-183 (a.k.a. Elliott Pkwy) and go about 1.1 miles.
4.  Bear Right onto GA-52 East and go 1.6 miles.
5.  Turn Left onto Amicalola Falls State Park Rd, at the park entrance.
6.  Continue northward just 0.2 mile to the State Park Visitor Center on your right.  At 10:00 AM we’ll gather just inside the Visitor Center and introduce one another.  It’s a good idea to ask for one of their nice free color maps of the State Park which clearly shows our parking lot and trailhead for the hike.

Carpool Cost: Estimated cost per vehicle for this event is $41.60 using a reimbursement rate guideline of $0.400 per mile. The total amount should be divided by the number of people in the vehicle, including the driver. This is a guideline, not a rule, for drivers but the cost should not be higher unless there are extenuating circumstances.
