New Members Welcome

This is a hike posted to encourage new members (members with 3 or less events) to come out and start hiking with the AOC....yet is open to all. The actual number of spots available for this event is 20 but the there are 10 spots reserved for new members.

How this works is that until 10 new members are signed up, new members will be given priority on the waitlist and moved over to the event. Once there are 10 new members signed up, then registration will be open to everyone. We just want to make it extra easy for new members to get out on a hike and not feel like they may be the only "newbie" there.

This is a good hike to get started with as well. It is at the Jones Bridge unit of the Chattahoochee NRA..certainly some of the finest parks in the Atlanta Metro area. Much of our walk will provide some scenic views of the Chattahoocee...and a good bit of it will be in the nearby woods where we will most likely see some deer (well at least some squirrels are guaranteed).

There is very little elevation change along the trail...not much more than about 500 feet of total ascent for the entire hike. We will stop for a long lunch break near the halfway point. Total distance should end up being between 5 and 6 miles...So even though it is a D2 (easy) hike, it will be long enough to get your heart rate up a bit and provide a moderate workout.

How to Get There:
Event Directions:From GA 400, take exit 7a, and head East 4.1 miles through the intersection of Holcomb Bridge and Nesbitt Ferry Road to the junction of Barnwell Road. Turn left on Barnwell Rd, and travel approx 2 miles to Jones Bridge Branch which will be on the right. Turn in and go a little over 1/2 mile to large parking lot at end of road.
