Itinerary:

We will meet near the start of the walk-up trail behind the large parking lot beside Confederate Hall. The hike will start promptly at 9am so plan to arrive early. There is an $15 parking fee to enter the park; however, free public parking is available in Stone Mountain Village (http://www.stonemountaincity.org/departments/visitors_center/index.php). 

The scenic hike takes us past two lakes, an old time gristmill, an historic covered bridge, an outdoor quarry exhibit, and offers great views of the mountain. At times we will hike on exposed granite and at other times we will hike along wooded trails. We will maintain a leisurely pace.  

The intent of this hike is to help those folks who want to complete a backpack carrying training hike.  You don't have to carry a backpack to join this hike, but the pace will be leisurely.  The hike will have 'rest breaks' and you should plan on bringing a snack.  

Optional add on - climb to the top and back down (weather permitting).


Required Items to Bring:

• Comfortable shoes with a good grip-the rock can be slippery.
• 1-2 liter of water or sports drink.
• Trail snacks.

Directions: To the main entrance- From I-285 take U.S. Hwy 78 East (Snellville/Athens) exit. Travel about 7 miles and take Exit 8, the Stone Mountain Park Main Entrance. After entering the main entrance, proceed straight ahead. The road will fork at about 1 mile – stay to the right. Continue to follow the road for another mile. Confederate Hall will be on your left. The parking lot will be immediately after. We’ll meet near the walk up trail.
