West Palisades from Akers Dr and optional lunch

West Palisades connects Akers Mill and Paces Ferry on the west bank of the Chattahoochee River at Devil's Shoals.  We will hike about five miles of the trails in this section of the Chattahoochee NRA including sections along the river as well as in the woods.  The trail is mostly flat; however, there are a few uphill sections.  We will be hiking at a leisurely to moderate pace.  There are lots of rocks and roots on the trail - so choose your shoes wisely.  Please remember to bring $3 cash for the National Park Service parking fee, unless you have a Chattahoochee NRA annual pass.

All dogs must be well-behaved and friendly towards people and dogs of all sizes.  Owners must keep their dogs on a leash at all times and clean up after their pets on the trail.

Dress appropriately for the weather.  The uphills will really get your blood flowing, so dress in layers so you can regulate your temperature.

Optional lunch will be had at the Doc Greens on 41 about 1.5 miles from the event.

From eastbound Interstate 285

Take exit 22, Northside Drive, New Northside Drive, Powers Ferry Road.
Right on Northside Drive to Powers Ferry Road.
Right approximately 1.5 miles to Akers Drive SE
Turn left at the wooden "Mill Wheel"
Drive up the hill passing apartment homes untill you see the visitor parking at the end of Akers Ridge Dr. SE

From westbound Interstate 285
Take exit 22, New Northside Drive, Northside Drive, Powers Ferry Road.
Straight to second traffic light.
Left on Northside Drive to Powers Ferry Road.
Right approximately 1.5 miles to Akers Drive SE
Turn Left at the wooden "Mill Wheel."
Drive up the hill passing apartment homes until you see the visitor parking at the end of Akers Ridge DR. SE
