Itinerary: | |||||||
The Wagon Train Trail follows an old roadbed that allows hiking to Brasstown Bald with mostly moderate grades. The original road was constructed in the 1930s with convict labor and allowed access to explore Brasstown Bald. The tower was built with help of the Civilian Conservation Corps. Along the trail the forest changes as it gains altitude, the habitat is home to a variety of wildflowers, and there are good views of the ridgeline and valley. Brasstown Bald offers a spectacular 360-degree view. Pace: pace will be moderate; fast hikers may have the option of adding a side trip to Jack's Gap (about 4.6 miles roundtrip).
