Autumn is finally here! Let's get out and enjoy the cooler temperature, and to see the changing leaves along Lilburn's beautiful Camp Creek Greenway. I haven't seen this hike posted on the AOC website before, so come out and explore some new trails. We will meet in front of Lions Club Park. Please arrive a few minutes early for checking in and introductions. We'll start with the paved trail that goes around the park, and then we'll get on the greenway trail. The greenway follows Camp Creek to the Lilburn City Park. This park also serves as a memorial site to fallen war heroes. We will stop here for a break before continuing on the rest of the trail and then backtracking to Lions Club. This is an easy hike. It has almost no elevation, unless you count the cute little wooden bridges every 1/2 mile or so. It's also partially shaded by trees on one side, so it may be chilly for some folks. When we're back at Lions Club, you can opt to end the hike here or continue to the BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir, located 1/2 a mile away. If you haven't visited the mandir (pronounced man- deer), you are in for a real treat. It's a massive Hindu temple that was hand- carved in India and shipped over in pieces to be constructed in Lilburn. The mandir is made of Turkish limestone, Italian marble and Indian pink sandstone - all without the use of nails or bolts to hold it all together! (There's a video you can watch onsite that gives the complete history and architecture of the mandir.) We'll explore for a little
while here. It is an active
temple, so please respect the rules:
