Itinerary:

For this hike, we are going to approach Blood Mountain via the Slaughter Creek trail, starting at Lake Winfield Scott.  We will hike about 4 miles to the Blood Mountain summit overlook, which is the highest point on the Appalachian Trail in Georgia. We can hang out at the overlook awhile to eat lunch, relax, and enjoy the beautiful views.

We take a different route back to the trailhead, using the AT and Jarrad Gap trail. Total distance will be about 8.5 miles and the elevation gain will be pretty steady from the start until we reach the summit of Blood Mountain. There is about 2000 feet of total ascent on this route, so it can be challenging.

The plan is to hike at a moderate and steady pace, so that we can enjoy the scenery along the way and stay together as a group.  This will not be a fast hike, and we will stop at trail junctions to gather everyone before moving on.

Note: Because of the distance and elevation gain, this is not a beginners hike, but still a good introduction to hiking in the North Georgia mountains.  If your AOC history does not show recent D3 or higher experience, then I will contact you to confirm this event is appropriate for your current level.
