Note: This is an "EXPLORATORY" trip. This means that there are parts of this trip, or perhaps the whole trip, that is new to your Trip Leader(s). However, they are confident that this will not be an issue.
This note is here so that you can make an informed decision. When a Trip Leader isn't personally familiar with a trip, there is an increased chance of things not going as planned and you need to be prepared. The Trip Leader may have additional details in the itinerary.

Itinerary:

This is an exploratory hike of the Aska Trail System and includes a short shuttle (about 7 miles). Our hike will start at Stanley Gap and first we will view the waterfalls (spur trail) at less than a mile into our hike (Fall Branch Falls). We will follow the Benton MacKaye and Stanley Gap trails to Rocky Mountain (fast hikers will take spur trail up to the mountain top) and then continue on Stanley Gap trail to Deep Gap. From there we will hike on the Green Mountain trail down to Blue Ridge Lake and back to Deep Gap.

Dogs are welcome but must be on leash at all times and not interfere with other hikers or dogs.

Shuttle: we will leave one car at Deep Gap on our way to Stanley Gap, where our hike begins. Our hike ends at Deep Gap and hikers will wait while drivers retrieve their cars from Stanley Gap.

Drive to Blue Ridge, GA

Deep Gap - From Blue Ridge, GA, go south on Aska Road 4.4 miles to Deep Gap parking area below gap and on right side of road.

Stanley Gap - From Deep Gap parking area, go south on Aska Road for about 3.8 miles. Turn right on Stanley Creek Road (Toccoa Riverside Restaurant on left). Parking area for trail is about 3.1 miles on left.

Estimated cost per vehicle for this event is $63.60 using a reimbursement rate guideline of $0.400 per mile. The total amount should be divided by the number of people in the vehicle, including the driver. This is a guideline, not a rule, for drivers but the cost should not be higher unless there are extenuating circumstances.
