Itinerary:

Let's end the year with a nice little jaunt through Sope Creek and Cochran Shoals.   Join me for this moderate D2 hike at one of our favorite parks.   We'll start the hike from Sope Creek Elementary School, which is about 1/4 mile down Papermill Road from the Sope Creek CNRA parking lot. Approximate address of the school is 3320 Papermill Road, Marietta, GA.  It's a large parking lot, and it's free!

We'll hike for about 2.5 hours, getting in around 5 miles.  Some of the trails are hilly and rocky, so at our steady, moderate pace, this hike might be a little challenging for true beginning hikers who have no hiking experience. However, if you can handle the distance, give it a try.  We won't leave you behind.

If you bring your dog, it should be able to keep up with the group and interact well with other dogs and people. The Chattahoochee NRA requires that owners keep their dogs on a leash and clean up after their pets on the trails. Please be willing to keep your dog on leash out of consideration to other hikers, because it's the law and because the reputation of the AOC is damaged when members break the leash law.

Limit of 3 dogs, please!

The Sope Creek Elementary School parking lot is on Papermill Road, about 1/4 mile from Sope Creek parking lot.  If you're coming from Johnson Ferry Road, go about 1/2 mile past the Sope Creek bridge, to Sope Creek Elementary School on your left. If you're coming from I-75 on Papermill, it will be on your right at the traffic light at Shadowlawn Road.  When you turn into the school parking lot, go to the large lot on your left and park all the way at the end.

From Eastbound Interstate 285

  • Take exit 24, Riverside Drive.
  • Left For 2.3 miles to Johnson Ferry Road.
  • Left for 2.7 miles to the junction of Johnson Ferry Road and Paper Mill Road.
  • Left onto Paper Mill Road for 2.5 miles to Sope Creek Elementary School

 

From Westbound Interstate 285

  • Take exit 24, Riverside Drive.
  • North For 2.3 miles to Johnson Ferry Road.
  • Left for 2.7 miles to the junction of Johnson Ferry Road and Paper Mill Road.
  • Left onto Paper Mill Road for 2.5 miles to Sope Creek Elementary School
