Not for Beginners due to the distance & more challenging root & rock terrain! Happy Cinco De Mayo AOC Hikers! On your mark, Uno-Dos-Tres-Cuatro-Cinco ---hike! Imagine 5 parks in 5 hours totaling 10+miles along the Chattahoochee River in Roswell. Enjoy hiking along and experiencing the Chattahoochee River. We will meet at Riverside Park (FREE Parking). Beware, this is not this AOC hombre's 1st Rodeo (Trek). You may not recognize their face, however, you will want to follow their Cinco Park tracks! Wear your most desireable and comfortable Cinco attire! Then, enjoy your bragging rights during your Cinco evening event! Many of us will join The Cinco partying tradition, afterwards, across the Chatahoochee bridge & up South, 3 miles on Roswell Rd., at Tijuana Joes Cantina around 3:30 PM. It is at 7870 Roswell Road- Tel. 770-817-5617. Introductions 1st, then we will begin hiking at 10 a.m. sharp. Come early for restrooms, located here. Also, additional restrooms are located along our hike at Azalea Park. Additionally, bring your Mexican lunch to enjoy on the scenic Chattahoochee River. From Riverside Park, we will walk over to & begin our Uno, of Dos actual hiking trails (1 ½ miles) by exploring the Allenbrook Trail. It is a true hidden diamond in the Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area circuit, overlooking scenic Big Creek & Vickery Creek Trail flowing into the Chattahoochee River. From the Allenbrook Park, we'll walk along the sidewalk & cross Atlanta Road to access the sidewalk that parallels Azalea Drive. Next, we will travel to and go through Azalea Park (1.1 miles). We continue our southwest Trek 1.5 miles, along the beautiful River Boardwalk that begins .3 miles from our exit at Azalea Park. . The Boardwalk takes a winding route across the wetlands, often passing near the Chattahoochee River for some scenic views of the waterway. We pass by the Chattahoochee Nature Center & end at Willeo Park. Willeo Park offers an out and back on the Boardwalk, where there is no better Chattahoochee experience without a boat. Moving on, we go up & around on the sidewalk .8 miles to embark on our Dos trail hike & final Chattahoochee hike at Gold Branch Park. Arriving at the Gold Branch Trail, another beautiful installation of the Chattahoochee River Recreation Area, we will begin our 1.8-mile Gold Branch hike. 1/2 mile into the hike, we will pause for 20 minutes to enjoy our individually backpacked lunch at a scenic rocky river overlook! Our portion of the Gold Branch Trail has some changing & challenging terrain. We may even get a glimpse of a Great Blue Herron or the 1963 Mercury Comet along the trail. Finally, we head on the final trek of our adventure by returning to our parking at Riverside Park (4 miles). This hike is NOT for beginners. Bring your own Mexican lunch, snack, water and trail shoes/boots, hiking poles (optional). Bathrooms will be available at Riverside Park and Azalea Park. No Dogs, no children. If you are new to the AOC, please include a short message with your registration telling me about your hiking experience/level of fitness. I need to make sure everyone on the hike is capable of keeping up with the group. If I feel you may not be able to keep up, I may remove you and request you join us when you have more hiking experience. This is for your own safety and in fairness to everyone in the group. Please arrive 10 minutes early for introductions. Also, you have until 8:30 am on the day of the hike to remove yourself, if something comes up. After that time, please call Russ at 404-353-3077 to cancel. DUE TO BREAK-INS, LOCK ALL VALUABLES IN YOUR TRUNK and OUT OF SIGHT! Join us at Tijuana Joes Cantina around 3:30 PM. 7870 Roswell Road- Tel. 770-817-5617.
