Itinerary:

Wondering what to do after church, the Easter egg hunt, or that special holiday lunch?  Need a little exercise and some fresh air?  Join me for a moderate D2 hike at one of our favorite parks.   We'll start the hike from Sope Creek Elementary School, which is about 1/4 mile down Papermill Road from the Sope Creek CNRA parking lot. Approximate address of the school is 3320 Papermill Road, Marietta, GA.  It's a large parking lot, and it's free!

We'll hike for about 2 hours, getting in around 4.5 miles.  Some of the trails are hilly and rocky, so at our steady, moderate pace, this hike might be a little challenging for true beginning hikers who have no hiking experience. However, if you can handle the distance, give it a try.  We won't leave you behind.

Poison ivy is starting to sprout out along the trails.  If you're sensitive to the oil, be sure to wear high socks or long pants to prevent contacting the plant as you hike.

The Sope Creek Elementary School parking lot is on Papermill Road, about 1/4 mile from Sope Creek parking lot.  If you're coming from Johnson Ferry Road, go about 1/2 mile past the Sope Creek bridge, to Sope Creek Elementary School on your left. If you're coming from I-75 on Papermill, it will be on your right at the traffic light at Shadowlawn Road.  When you turn into the school parking lot, go to the large lot on your left and park all the way at the end.

From Eastbound Interstate 285

  • Take exit 24, Riverside Drive.
  • Left For 2.3 miles to Johnson Ferry Road.
  • Left for 2.7 miles to the junction of Johnson Ferry Road and Paper Mill Road.
  • Left onto Paper Mill Road for 2.5 miles to Sope Creek Elementary School

 

From Westbound Interstate 285

  • Take exit 24, Riverside Drive.
  • North For 2.3 miles to Johnson Ferry Road.
  • Left for 2.7 miles to the junction of Johnson Ferry Road and Paper Mill Road.
  • Left onto Paper Mill Road for 2.5 miles to Sope Creek Elementary School
