Saturday Morning Hike: Vickery Creek

From the Engineering Office parking lot we will descend to the banks of the picturesque Hog Wallow Creek. After a few minutes walk we will reach Oxbo Dr. and Big Creek. After crossing the creek on a bridge we will enter the park proper. After walking about 2 miles East and then South we will leave the park and walk a short distance to the banks of the Chattahoochee, then return to the park and follow Big Creek upstream. We will be on bluffs above the creek, and the views can be quite spectacular. Along the way we will descend and cross the creek on a  covered bridge, visit the ruins of an old cotton mill and have a close look at the nearby dam. We will also visit Founder’s Cemetery, where several of the early settlers of Roswell are buried.

Bring LUNCH.  We'll eat on the trail!

Coming from Atlanta on GA 400N take Exit 5B for GA 140 towards Roswell. Merge onto GA 140W/Holcomb Bridge Rd. After 0.4 miles turn left onto Dogwood Rd (this is a slow light). After 0.5 miles turn R onto Grimes Bridge Rd. After 1 mile turn L onto Oxbo Rd. After 0.4 miles turn R onto Dobbs Rd. Note: your app may announce that you have arrived a few hundred feet before you actually do. We will leave our cars at the parking lot next to the Engineering Office. If there is not enough parking, drive straight ahead about a quarter of a mile, where you will find a large parking area.
