Itinerary: | |||||||
The Cherokee Trail circles the base of the mountain, meandering along waterways, through forested areas, and passes by many of the park attractions. This white blazed path is aproximately 5 miles, but we will add another easy mile on the purple blazed path around Kings Island near the Grist Mill. The pace will be moderate but steady with breaks for water and a photo or two. Park in the large lot near the History and Environmental Education Center (aka Confederate Hall.) We will gather beside the restrooms at the base of the walk up trail. The daily parking pass is $20 or $40 for an annual park pass. As an option, there is a free parking lot outside the gates at 995 5th Street, Stone Mountain. This is a local MARTA Park & Ride lot that is a 15 minute walk to the PATH entrance on neighborhood sidewalks. Follow E Mountain St until it deadends in front of the small gate. The PATH passes around it and is across the street from the Education Center parking area. Just factor an extra 20+ minutes to park and walk in. | |||||||
