Note: This is an "EXPLORATORY" trip. This means that there are parts of this trip, or perhaps the whole trip, that is new to your Trip Leader(s). However, they are confident that this will not be an issue. This note is here so that you can make an informed decision. When a Trip Leader isn't personally familiar with a trip, there is an increased chance of things not going as planned and you need to be prepared. The Trip Leader may have additional details in the itinerary. | |||||||
Itinerary: | |||||||
The Cumberland Trail is one of my favorite trails and is full of gorges, waterfalls, rivers, boulders and more! Join me as I hike 2 new sections and 3 old favorites. Part I - North Soddy Creek Gorge Part II - Possum Creek Part III - Rock Creek Part IV - Laurel Snow Part V - North Chickamauga
North Soddy Creek Gorge We will start at the Little Soddy Trailhead. We will start walking through an old mining area and parallel Little Soddy Creek as we descend into the gorge. We will cross the creek and start our ascent out. We will then have a ridge walk and enjoy the views of the gorge until we descend again, this time to cross the boulder filled Deep Creek. Back out, then in the gorge we go as we make our way to the 100 foot suspension bridge that crosses Soddy Creek. This is where we will stop for lunch. We may go a bit further to explore the gorge or explore some side trails before retracing our steps back to the car. We will be moving at a fast-moderate pace (2.6 mph average) through out this hike so we have time to stop and enjoy the highlights. This is an exploratory D5 event, you must have recent D4/D5 experience to join the fun. When signing up please note what fitness level you have maintained throughout the lock down. I reserve the right to move members to the wait list.
