Itinerary:

Join me for a challenging and fun day hiking in two states, Georgia and North Carolina. Our goal will be to enjoy some great views from Albert mountain and possibly bag a Georgia 4k peak, Grassy Ridge.

This event will have no meet up at the trailhead. 5 hikers only because of limited parking space at trailhead! We will meet at Ingles in Clayton Ga at 7:45 am. We start this hike on the Grassy Ridge Trailhead at Patterson Gap. Heading North just East of the Southern Nantahala Wilderness border. There will be an unbeaten trail, sometimes a path with plenty of unexpected blowdown! This trail will walk to the west of Grassy Ridge Mountain (4406 ft) and put us near Nichols Gap. Then, we will be climbing for the most part of this trail until we get around the North Carolina line. At around mile ~ 3 we intersect the Appalachian Trail at Carters Gap and turn ourselves to a Northeasterly fashion. Once getting comfortable with the AT ... we will heading to the North until we make our assault on Albert! The South face has it's rocky moments but only briefly!! North bound AT hikers call this the 100 mile mark (100 miles from the southern terminus of the trail at Springer Mountain). This will be mile ~9.5 for us and also lunch. You will be able to climb the fire tower which should afford excellent views to the East. After lunch we retrace our steps back to the south. If time permits, we will attempt the short bushwhack to the summit of Grassy Ridge.

This event will take a hiker who has experience on long hikes. The elevation gain is low for a D6 approximately ~ 4,000 but mileage is high. Also Grassy Ridge might be a little unforgiving and technical with blowdowns. You must have absolutely some recent D6 levels for this event. I will most definitely use my discretion in judging your abilities to hike this event. The leader does reserve the right to put you back on the waiting list if warranted.
