Itinerary:

This is a long day D6 trekking the Georgia Triple Crown - Coosa Bald, Slaughter Mountain, and Blood Mountain mostly on the Coosa Backcountry Loop (CBL) trail. It has more than 4,600 feet ascent. It is only suitable for members with recent solid D5 records.

We’ll meet and start from the Vogel State Park visitor center parking lot. We’ll go counterclockwise direction on the CBL trail. There are Coosa Bald (4,280’) and Slaughter Mountain (4,338’) along the way with very steep climbing. Instead of returning to the Vogel State Park, we will continue on Duncan Ridge Trail and Appalachian Trail to Blood Mountain (4,458’). After covering the three summits, we’ll retrace back to CBL trail to finish the loop and back to our cars.

We’ll regroup at all the trail junctions/ crossroads to keep the group together so nobody will get lost in the backcountry. We’ll take our lunch break at the summit of Blood Mountain.

Georgia State Park requires $5 entry/ parking fee, or your annual pass. Annual pass is a great way to motivate oneself to keep coming back and enjoy all of the Georgia state parks. It is more convenient and very cost effective.

The event duration does NOT include our travelling/ driving time. If you’re going to meet at the event, please arrive 10 minutes before our starting time. Our duration time is an educated estimate, so we need to have some flexibility.

<<< Important Notes >>>

Please only register if you are comfortable going long distance at a pace averaging 2.5 mph in the remote mountains environment, and have recent solid D5 records. A good reference is you can comfortably finish Kennesaw 10 in less than 4 hours.

If your recent experience is not from the club, please include it in a note when you register, or email TL; otherwise you will be moved to the waiting list for the safety of everyone. We encourage our members to actively participate with joyful experience, and most importantly to stay healthy and safe at the end of our event.
