Itinerary: | |||||||
Dally Gap is a trailhead near Bear Branch in Chattahoochee National forest, Cohutta Wilderness. It is a great trailhead for accessing many intersecting trails deep within the Cohuttas. We will start at Dally Gap and hike on the connector to Spanish Oak Gap and follow Hemp Top Trail. This is marked by a steady climb for a little over a mile with a slight plateau then a gradual descent down the other side of Hemp Top trail. We will then climb through a small rise where we will complete our hike at Double Spring Gap which sits at the Tennessee border. This is a great hike with excellent views of unspoiled wilderness-because the elevation is gradual (two climbs and a gradual downhill), hikers on the cusp of D4 will find this enjoyable and challenging enough. Elevation gain is approximately 2400ft. The hike will have a lead and a sweep. We will regroup at intersections. No dogs on the hike please. There is no carpool for this hike. Vehicle with higher ground clearance is highly recommended (e.g., trucks, CRVs, etc) | |||||||
