EVENT PLAN: Frazier-Rowe is a heavily forested DeKalb County park here in NE metro Atlanta. Dozens of "Friends of the Park" volunteers work hard to continually improve its amazing array of scenic trails and the variety and health of its native trees, shrubs, wildflowers & wildlife. On this easy but adventurous ~4-mile hike we'll explore the park's gently rolling creekside terrain and interconnecting trails that wind through the adjoining Coralwood nature preserve. We can also enjoy the scenery along a couple of residential sidewalks that connect to alternate park trailheads in this quiet "Oak Grove" neighborhood. Nice weather is expected during the event - in the low 50s, with sunny skies and no likelihood of rain. WHERE & WHEN? We'll gather a few minutes before 1:00 PM by the shady Frazier-Rowe Park trailhead & bulletin board which adjoins the entrance to "Sprig Restaurant. " It's on the edge of the woods on the eastern end of the parking lot at Vista Grove Plaza shopping center. See Directions & GPS Info below, and for a zoomable map or satellite view click the above square blue & green "Event Location" icon. CANINE COMPANIONS are OK. Bring your well-behaved dog if you like, but make sure that he or she is leashed and under your control at all times, and in your registration notes please indicate size, breed, name, etc. MORE ABOUT the PARK: Founded in 2013 and named for two families of different ethnicity who lived in harmony there in the mid-20th century, DeKalb County's Frazier-Rowe Park and its adjoining forest preserves boast about 15 acres of panoramic natural terrain. The trail networks, floral gardens, bridges and other structures have been designed, built and maintained by hard-working local citizens, Boy Scout volunteers, etc. Our "Friends of Frazier-Rowe Park" group was awarded a $10,000 "prize grant" for its excellent use of volunteerism - affirming that folks of all ages can make a big difference to their community by working together in the great outdoors. | |||||||
