Itinerary:

Gahuti Trail at Fort Mountain State Park near Chatsworth has it all, creeks, waterfall, large trees, long views, undulating terrain. The hike has over 1900 feet of elevation gain. The trail name is "Mother Mountain" in the Cherokee language and the mountain itself has historical significance both pre-Columbian and after. (More about this at the hike.) We will stay together as a group throughout.

The pace will be about 2.5 mph. Its starting to get warmer so bring plenty of water (2 to 3 liters) so we all stay hydrated. Bring a lunch or snacks for a lunch break around 12:30.

If you are meeting at the trailhead, plan on being 5 minutes before 10:00 AM to review itinerary and introductions. The hike will begin promptly at 10:00

The Gahuti Trail follows orange blazes. The trail carves through the contours of several deep-cut channel valleys with steady climbs and descents along the way. There are a couple of short spurs we will take, one to the ancient stone wall and one to Goldmine Creek Waterfall. There are also amazing views at the Cool Springs Overlook.

This is a fun hike with lots to see and a good Thursday spring day challenge.  Dogs must be on a leach.
