Itinerary:

This hike follows the Bartram trail and includes ascents up Scaly Mtn and Whiterock Mtn skirting Jones Knob along the way.  This is a challenging but rewarding hike with lots of climbing and great views.

We will start from the Osage Overlook parking area just west of Highlands and head up the Bartram Trail to the summit of Scaly Mtn to enjoy the view.  After a long descent down Scaly we head back up Jones Knob to stop at a westward facing overlook.  Staying on top of the ridge line we'll reach Whiterock Mtn for lunch with a wonderful vista.  After lunch we retrace our route back to the trailhead with another long climp up the north side of Scaly Mtn.

This is a difficult D6 level hike with a couple of long 1200+ ft climbs.  Total distance comes to about 16 miles with 4500 ft of climbing. I'll try to keep the overall average pace around 2.5 mph with easier sections nearing 3.0 mph.  Hikers without recent D6 experience will get an email to assess your compatibility.
