This note is here so that you can make an informed decision. When a Trip Leader isn't personally familiar with a trip, there is an increased chance of things not going as planned and you need to be prepared. The Trip Leader may have additional details in the itinerary.

Itinerary:

Rescheduled due to weather!

The Cumberland Trail is one of my favorite trails, full of gorges, bluffs, raging rivers and waterfalls it is always an adventure to explore. Join me as I explore this "new to me" section of the trail.

We will park at the Roaring Creek Trailhead where a decent size parking area will greet us. We will start on the Roaring Creek Trail, after about .8 miles we will take a slight right on the Graysville Mountain Trail. In about a quarter mile, the trail makes a hairpin turn, but we will take the intersecting Hells Kitchen Trail and its' 900 foot climb in just under a mile to the Hells Kitchen area. Hells Kitchen is known for its cool rock formations and rock climbing area. After enjoying our time in the Kitchen, we will retrace our steps back to the intersection of the Graysville Mountain trail. A left turn on this trail and about a 3/4 mile trek will take us to the Roaring Creek Overlook. This rocky overlook will give us fine views of the gorge below. Back on the trail we go where another quarter mile will bring us to Wildcat Hollow Falls. Past the falls we will trek for about 2.5 miles along the rim of the gorge enjoying an occasional glimpse of the gorge below. This is our turn around point, so it  is time to retrace our steps back to the Roaring Creek Trail. At this intersection, if time permits, we will explore a little further north to enjoy more rocky outcrops and creek views before turning around and going back to our cars. Somewhere along our trek we will find a scenic spot to  eat lunch.

This adventure will be one for exploring and fun with a few wrong turns for added fun. The trail is fairly rocky so be sure and bring your poles.

This is a difficult hike, recent D5 experience is required to join the fun. If you don't have recent D5 experience, you will be moved to the waiting list as you await an email from the trip leader to assess your experience.
