This note is here so that you can make an informed decision. When a Trip Leader isn't personally familiar with a trip, there is an increased chance of things not going as planned and you need to be prepared. The Trip Leader may have additional details in the itinerary.

Itinerary:

Join me as I explore a "new to me" section of my favorite trail, the Cumberland Trail.

The Cumberland Trail is an ambitious hiking trail project currently under development. When completed, the CT will extend more than 300 miles from the Cumberland Gap in Kentucky to Signal Point, just outside of Chattanooga.  Currently over 200 miles are open with the trail slated for completion in late 2019*.  Additionally, the CT is part of the Great Eastern Trail, which is under development and will extend from Alabama to New York when completed.

We will begin our hike along the Soddy Creek on a connector trail leading to the Cumberland Trail. After about 1.5 miles we will cross the Broadcamp Creek and climb out of the Gorge to meet the Cumberland Trail. A right turn will take us along the Broadcamp to a large rock house followed by a campsite. We will turn around at the campsite go past the connector trail and all the way to a 100 foot bridge over the Soddy. About a mile after crossing the Soddy we will cross Deep Creek on another, smaller, bridge. We will climb out of the gorge and continue for about another mile before we turn around again and head for our cars. Somewhere along the way we will stop for lunch and enjoy some beautiful Cumberland Plateau views.

This is a difficult D5 hike with rough terrain, only experienced D5 hikers will be allowed on the event. Under experienced hikers will be move to the waitlist and receive a vetting email from the trip leader.

About half of this route is new to me... it is an exploratory hike. The trailhead is near the Central Timezone, all times listed are in EST.
