Itinerary:

Welcome to the Gold Branch Easy Spoke Hike.

We will begin with a climb, then turn right and walk along a relatively flat section following the crest of hills through a deeply wooded forest of oak and hickory. Finally, we will come into view of Bull Sluice Lake and Morgan Falls Dam. You can choose to descend to the lake or wait as the others walk down to the lake and return.

We will retrace our steps, taking the first "spoke" to the right. This spoke is also relatively flat as it follows the crest of hills until it drops to the lake. Again we retrace our steps back up the hill and proceed to the end of the "main spine" trail. Retracing again, we return to the parking lot.

Hiking poles are recommended.

As this is a CRNRA unit, there is a $5 parking fee unless you have an annual pass.  There are no bathroom facilities at this unit so plan accordingly.

There have been numerous "break-ins" at the parking lot. Do not leave valuables in cars. The thieves have been known to surveil the parking lot in order to find when people are moving or hiding valuables within the car. Hiding your valuables will not protect you.

Required Items to Bring:

Hiking poles are only required if you are not accustomed to hiking without poles in difficult terrain.

Recommended Items to Bring:
Use our Event Checklists to make sure you have everything you need.

Hiking poles.

Water bottle.

How to Get There:
Event Directions:

Gold Branch is located on Lower Roswell Road between Johnson Ferry Road and Willeo Road.  If you are coming from Johnson Ferry Road, it is about 2 miles from Johnson Ferry on the right.  Do not try to come from Roswell Road (via Willeo Road) because Willeo is closed for bridge construction. If coming from Roswell Road, follow Timberline to the traffic circle next to bridge construction and continue on Lower Roswell Road for about a half-mile to find the Gold Branch entrance on left.

There is a Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area sign on Lower Roswell and the parking lot is at the bottom of the hill.
