Itinerary:

This is the hike Joyce was planning on doing.

Yes, one can hike at the Kennesaw Battlefield without climbing the mountains.  This third section of the park is the least traveled, but it provides an excellent trail for moderate hiking.  Our pace will be moderate, keeping the group together to give us an opportunity to talk as we hike and stop occasionally for pictures and water. If the distance doesn't present a challenge, come join us.   The terrain is varied, with undulating hills . . .  but nothing seriously steep.

We will start our hike promptly at 9:00 am in the parking lot off of Dallas Highway (Whitlock Ave. if you're coming from Marietta) and hike the 5.5. mile loop trail, winding our way through a variety of landscapes that go all the way to Powder Springs Road (Kolb Farm) before beginning the second half of the loop back.

Although we might not need the extra time, I've scheduled the hike for 2.5 hours.  We might finish a bit earlier.

NOTE:  THis is NOT the lot off John Ward Road.  The road to the parking lot is on Whitlock Road or Dallas Highway.

Bathrooms have been constructed next to the parking lot!

$5 parking passes are required if you don't have an annual pass. You can purchase your pass online before the hike at https://www.nps.gov/ kemo/planyourvisit/fees.htm  .  Annual passes can be purchased for $40 at the Visitor Center.  America the Beautiful passes are good at Kennesaw Mountain.
