Itinerary:

This D2 hike at East Palisades will not be a super fast hike, but because of the rugged terrain throughout the park, it is NOT a good hike for beginners or for those with unsure footing!  The time allotted is to allow for stops along the way to appreciate the beauty of the park.  Be cautioned, however, that there are some challenging hills we have to deal with and some trails that are technically difficult because of rocks and roots.  No whining allowed!   We'll take in the bamboo forest, the overlook deck,  and hopefully get to the dog beach on the other end of the park as well.

East Palisades is one of the most beautiful of all the CNRA units. It offers several miles of trails that connect to a scenic overlook that offers excellent views of the Devil's Race Course Shoals.

We will leave promptly at 9 am.   Please arrive 10 minutes early to get settled, buy a park pass ($5) online if you don't already have one,  and meet your fellow members.  Park passes can be purchased in advance online at    https://www.nps.gov/chat/planyourvisit/fees.htm .  Annual passes ($40) are highly recommended if you plan to hike throughout the year.

If you bring your dog, it should be able to keep up with the group and interact well with other dogs and people. The Chattahoochee River NRA requires that owners keep their dogs on a leash and clean up after their pets on the trails, and the AOC abides by their rules.  A maximum of three dogs will be permitted on this hike on a first to sign up basis.

There are no bathroom facilities at this location, but there are plenty of trees!

Be aware that the road from the entrance sign to the parking lot is rutted with some potholes that should be avoided.  GO SLOWLY as you drive down the road!
