Kolb Farm Loop and Cheatham Hill

Lets hike the Kolb Farm Loop on the Southern end of Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield Park.  Along the way we will learn a little history about this area that in June, 1864 was the site of a battle during the Civil War.  With only modest elevation gain, this would be a beginner friendly hike.

We will be meeting at the parking lot located on Cheatham Hill Road (NOT Cheatham Hill Drive which is a completely different place).  

First we will cross the road and take the Assault Trail, which traces the path that Union troops took during their assault on Cheatham Hill.  Upon reaching the top, we will visit the Illinois Monument briefly before heading out to the Kolb loop itself.  Along the way we will pass the remains of some of the earthworks of both the Confederate and Union troops.  We will also likely see some deer and other wildlife as we hike. We will be heading around the loop in a clockwise direction through forests and a few open areas before reaching the cars after about 5.5 miles.  

Parking  is $5 at Kennesaw Mountain NBP or use of an annual pass (Kennesaw Mt NBP specific or annual or lifetime America The Beautiful National Park passes).   

• From the North Marietta Loop west of the Marietta Square turn onto Whitlock Avenue
• Travel approximately 3 miles (passing Marietta High School on your left)
• Turn left onto John Ward Road and travel 0.6 miles to traffic circle
• At traffic circle take second exit onto Cheatham Hill Road
• Go 0.2 miles and the parking lot and trail head will be on your right
