PLEASE READ ALL THE WAY TO THE BOTTOM!!!!!! This event is opening early for you to get your tickets if you are staying for the show. If the weather prohibits this hike we will do some other things in Columbus (hike, museum). If you are hiking and staying the night for the next day event, consider refundable accommodations. The Phenix City Hampton Inn is a good option or you can stay in Columbus. Join me as we explore Providence Canyon, know as Georgia's Little Grand Canyon. The Canyons were created from poor farming practices by the early settlers and the soft soil started washing it away. It has exposed the colorful sandy soil. We will take it at a moderate pace while exploring canyons 2-8. We will then jump on the 6.6-mile Backcountry Trail Loop, this starts in the creek bed. Consider having a change of footwear, as your boots/shoes could get muddy. Once we get off the creek bed I plan on picking up speed a bit (not too fast) so we can get a workout in as well. The backcountry loop connects in with the white trail the upper canyon and we can take in some other views from above. This hike can vary by a mile or so depending on how many extra outlets we explore. This event is much different then your North GA mountains we will be following creek beds in and out of the the various canyons. This means it will be wet, sandy and muddy. It also depends on the amount of rain we have had. The Visitor Center Parking lot is open. No construction. Plan on meeting outside the visitor center doors. There are bathrooms here but always a line or not working properly. When you are driving in there is another set up bathrooms before you reach visitor center lot, but parking is minimal. We will stop at these at the end when we are on the white trail. Thanks Tricia S. for allowing me to copy your event!!! OPTIONAL: We are spending the night in Columbus as we have purchased tickets to Mannheim Steamroller Christmas
