This note is here so that you can make an informed decision. When a Trip Leader isn't personally familiar with a trip, there is an increased chance of things not going as planned and you need to be prepared. The Trip Leader may have additional details in the itinerary.

Itinerary:

Join us on a loop hike starting and ending at Standing Indian campground, near Franklin, NC. We will head west and south from the campground on the Kinsey Creek Trail to Deep Gap, where we will join the Appalachian Trail for a few miles to Standing Indian Mountain, where we will enjoy spectacular view. There is a chance we will encounter AT through hikers here. After enjoying the views, we will turn north along the Lower Trail Ridge Trail back to the campground where we started. There is a stream about halfway on the Kinsey Creek Trail.

But be aware that this is an exploratory hike, and be prepared for unexpected fun!

This hike is a strenuous hike that is not for beginners. You must have recent D5 AOC hikes or provide the trip leaders with comparable evidence that you can meet the challenge of this hike. If you do not, you will be moved to the waitlist while the trip leaders assess your experience. If you have comparable experience outside of AOC, provide it to the trip leaders (for example, you have recently completed a marathon). Expect a call from one of the trip leaders if you don't have recent D5 events.
