Itinerary:

Please join me for a hike at Bowmans Island CRNRA. We will meet in the CRNRA parking lot which is the 1st lot on the right after you enter the park. It is a smallish gravel lot. This is my favorite trail in the CRNRA. The trails consist of an almost 4 mile out and back flat trail along the river, and another 3 or so miles through the hills. We will do a total of about 6.2 miles with 450 feet of elevation, while hiking at around 2.6 mph (faster by the river, slower in the hills). The elevation gain consists of a long, but not steep, hill at the beginning, and a couple of smaller ones in the middle.

There are bathrooms in the Corps of Engineers parking lot at the end of the road.

Please arrive 10 minutes early for a hike description and introductions. Arrive earlier if you need to buy a park pass. Daily passes are $5 and can be purchased with credit card at the entrance kiosk. It will probably be easier to purchase one on-line or buy one at the Island Ford Visitor Center before the hike. We will start promptly at 10.

DO NOT LEAVE ANY VALUABLES IN YOUR CAR. THERE HAVE BEEN BREAK-INS. PUT THEM IN YOUR TRUNK OR LEAVE THEM AT HOME.
