Itinerary:

Let's meet for a scenic hike on the Stone Mountain Cherokee Trail.  This trail goes around, not up, Stone Mountain.

The hike is approximately 5.5 miles, and we will keep a moderate pace. As we hike, you'll see a diverse landscape featuring lush forests, serene lakes, and impressive geological formations.

We will meet for our hike near the restrooms located near the Historical & Environmental Education Center (formerly called Confederate Hall). The restrooms are adjoined to the parking lot in a separate building. If this is your first time on this trail, then please give yourself some extra time to arrive and find the meeting spot.

There is a $20 parking fee to enter the park. An annual parking pass is $40. However, free public parking is available in Stone Mountain Village. See directions below.

Required Items to Bring:

• Quality hiking shoes (There will be a few places where we will potentially walk on wet granite)
• Water for adequate hydration

Recommended Items to Bring:
Use our Event Checklists to make sure you have everything you need.

• Camera
* Hiking poles
* Snacks

How to Get There:
Event Directions:

Driving directions: To the main park entrance - From I-285 take U.S. Hwy 78 East (Snellville/Athens) exit. Travel about 7 miles and take Exit 8, the Stone Mountain Park Main Entrance. After entering the main entrance, proceed straight ahead. The road will fork at about 1 mile – stay to the right. Continue to follow the road for another mile. The Historical & Environmental Education Center (formerly called Confederate Hall) will be on your left. The parking lot will be immediately after. We’ll meet near the restrooms adjoined to the parking lot.

If you would like to try the free public parking in Stone Mountain Village, from Hwy 78 take exit 5 and merge onto GA 10. Proceed 0.5 miles to the first exit. At the end of the ramp turn left. Drive a mile or so. When you see City Hall turn left, there is a Marta park and ride on 4th street. From there it is a short walk (north) to East Mountain Street. Turn right on East Mountain Street and enter the park through the gate -- and then you'll arrive at the parking lot where the restroom building is located. The Marta parking lot is about an 8-minute walk from the park.

A map of the park can be found on link below -- and location to meet is near #16 and #17 on the map.
