Itinerary:

Enjoy dramatic mountain views as we hike the rugged Arkaquah Trail to Brasstown Bald, the highest peak in Georgia. Beautiful 360 degree scenery will greet us at the summit. 

We start at the Arkaquah Trailhead at Track Rock Gap, at about 2,100 feet elevation, climb almost 2000 feet in the first 1.5 miles, then trek to the Brasstown Bald parking lot. From there, just a half mile climb to the summit at 4784 feet, where there is an expansive observation deck and a small museum.   We return on the same route. 

Trailhead Parking is limited - carpool if convenient.

Please Note:   This is for experienced hikers only - If you don't have D5 experience with the club, email the trip leader.  The total elevation gain is 3815 ft.  There is one difficult uphill scramble requiring hand and arm strength and some agility.  If you are not experienced with this type of climb and not a proficient scrambler... this is not for you.  Our pace will average about 2.5 mph, which is moderate.

Click Here for directions to Track Rock Gap, or use google map directions to the Arkaquah Trailhead.  The parking area is the same as for the Track Rock Gap Archeological Area, and there should be a sign.  The parking area is very small and not well marked - go slow

Carpool Cost: Estimated cost per vehicle for this event is $60.00 using a reimbursement rate guideline of $0.400 per mile. The total amount should be divided by the number of people in the vehicle, including the driver. This is a guideline, not a rule, for drivers but the cost should not be higher unless there are extenuating circumstances.
