Itinerary:

Join me as I continue my hike on the Georgia section of the Appalachian Trail!

We’ll start our hike at Dick’s Creek Gap around around 9am headed SOBO on the Appalachian Trail towards Tray Mountain. We’ll hike approximately 11 miles (Ascent 4,400’; Descent 2,800’) to the Tray Mountain Shelter. On the way we’ll take a lunch break and any needed breaks. Once we reach the Tray Mountain Shelter, we’ll set up camp, rest and then take a half mile hike to summit Tray mountain for sunset. Tray Mountain is the 5th highest peak in GA and the 2nd highest on the Georgia AT and will hopefully provide some spectacular views. Today, we’ll hike approximately 12 miles with approximately 4,400 feet of elevation gain and 2,800 feet of descent.

When we wake up, we’ll have some breakfast, pack up and hike NOBO 11 miles (Ascent 2,800’; Descent 4,400’) back to Dick’s Creek Gap.

This Backpacking trip will be approximately 23 miles total with an total elevation gain/loss of 7,200 feet.

Since this is a D6, you must have prior D5/6 experience or a history of backpacking. The Trip Leader reserves the right to move a participant to the Wait List if they do not have adequate experience.
