Itinerary:

This is not a beginners hike.  To qualify, you need to have recently (last 2 weeks) kept pace with a D2 group at 3.0mph with 600 feet of elevaton gain and be willing to keep pace with this group.  If you are moved to a wait list, it is because you did not meet this written qualification or because the roster is full.

Avg. Speed:  3.3mph

Terrain:  rugged in some spots

Elevation Gain:  600 feet (three hills are in the 110 to 180 foot range)

We plan to start at the Powers Island lot which hopefully will be less populated than other lots this weekend.

This hike will involve 3 sister units of the CRNRA - - on opposite sides of the Chattahoochee River.   We'll start at the infrequently used Powers Island parking lot.

We will catch some river views as we cross the bridge over the Chattahoochee to Cochran Shoals.

We will take the boardwalk to the trail with the overview of the wetlands around the perimeter of the wetlands before reaching Terrell Creek.  We will head into the forest to follow the Creek as far as the trail will take us. along the creek.  We then head for Sope Creek to head along it.  We will retrace our steps at the halfway mark and if time allows we will detour over to the restrooms at Columns Drive.  Otherwise, we have restroom opportunities at Powers Island and Interstate North.

There is a $5 parking fee at this location if you don't have an annual pass.  Parking must be done online either at home or before the hike through your smartphone.

Please keep a mask with you to use when social distancing isn't possible.

PLEASE NOTE:  This is NOT the Cochran Shoals Interstate North parking lot!!! This is the parking lot across the river at POWERS ISLAND.
