Note: This is an "EXPLORATORY" trip. This means that there are parts of this trip, or perhaps the whole trip, that is new to your Trip Leader(s). However, they are confident that this will not be an issue.
This note is here so that you can make an informed decision. When a Trip Leader isn't personally familiar with a trip, there is an increased chance of things not going as planned and you need to be prepared. The Trip Leader may have additional details in the itinerary.

Itinerary:

Join me on this challenging hike in the Blood Mountain Wilderness approaching Jarrard Gap from the south.  It's a low end D6 of about 17 miles and 4000 ft elevation gain.

Starting at the Crow Falls parking area we'll gradually climb up to Jarrard Gap for about 5 miles (1500 ft).  On the way we'll pass by Crow Falls and then on up to the gap along an abandoned forrest service road.  From there we'll head north on the AT to the top of Blood Mountain where we'll have lunch with a view.  Heading back down the mountain we turn onto the Slaughter Creek Trail taking it down to Lake Winfield Scott. We'll stop by the lake if time permits and then climb back up to Jarrard Gap and back down to the cars.

This is a strenuous hike with around 4000 feet of ascent, solid D5 or D6 experience is required. You should be comfortable with hikes lasting 7+ hours at an average pace around 2.8 mph, with a few short stops along the way.

This hike is marked as expolatory since I've never hiked the trail from Crow Falls parking to Jarrad Gap.  Although I'm expecting a reasonable trail knowing another group did it earlier this Fall.
