Itinerary: | |||||
Come join me in a walk through the historic Decatur cemetery and surrounding neighborhoods, with an optional stop afterwards at the world famous Brick Store Pub, before walking the .7 miles back to our cars. We will see the "Old Sycamore" neighborhood, one of the oldest cemeteries in Atlanta including graves of Revolutionary War veterans, two or three city champion trees (I'm still trying to locate the third one we pass), and Glenlake Park. We will then walk through the Great Lakes and Vidal/Lamont neighborhoods before heading towards the Decatur Square on Ponce de Leon Avenue. At the square we will have an optional stop at the Brick Store Pub for drinks and/or food before heading back to Sycamore Street and the Old Sycamore neighborhood and to our cars. Walking at a 2.5–2.8 mile per hour pace, it will take about 2 hours and 15 minutes, and we will plan 15 minutes in the cemetery. It will take about 15 minutes to walk from the Brick Store Pub to the Avondale Marta station where we parked.

How to Get There: | |||||
Event Directions: | We will park at the Avondale Marta station's North lot on Sycamore Street at Ponce de Leon. For your GPS use: Avondale Station That works in both Apple Maps and Google Maps once you choose the Marta station and not the apartments with that name. 915 E Ponce de Leon, Decatur, GA works in Apple Maps only. Both will take you to an entrance to the Marta parking lot. Turn right and park in the lower lot on the right as you face the station (the West end of the lot). The following link will show a map of where to park and meet: https://www.icloud.com/sharedalbum/#B10GWZuqDGalSfu If you can't find us, please call the trip leader at the number given above.
Notes: | |||||
If you do not intend to stay with us at the Brick Store Pub after the hike, please let me know after you register. I will increase the number of people who can attend up to 15 if the number going to the BSP does not exceed 10. * We encourage all members to follow our Etiquette Guidelines while participating in AOC events.
