Itinerary:

This is an out and back hiking trip.

We will meet and start at the Newfound Gap parking lot.

We will start this popular hike on the AT and travel north for about two and a half miles then turn left on to the Boulevard Trail. We will travel this trail for about 5.5 miles at a pace where we are moving well but can still enjoy the amazing landsacpe. Then we will reach Mt. LeConte which is at 6593 feet of elevation.

The views from here are spectacular and we will stop and have our lunch while we look over the mountain with the most expansive views.

After lunch, we will return back in the same direction and head to our cars.

This is a strenuous hike and you must have previous D5 experience.

There is a parking fee of $5. It can be puchased online or at the visitors center. The National Park pass can't be used here.

Please arrive a few minutes early for introductions.

Event Directions:

Take 85 North to 985 North.

985 North will merge with 441-N through Clayton, Franklin NC, Cherokee NC then straight to the Oconaluftee Visitor Center at the Southern Entrance of the Great Smoky Mountain National Park.

PLEASE NOTE: Newfound Gap Parking is about 16 miles past the Oconaluftee Visitor Center.
