Itinerary:
Start the new year with a good opportunity for a work out as we ascend from the river level of Cochran Shoals to the Sope Creek and back.

We will meet and introduce ourselves at 12:45 by the bulletin board at the end of the Columns Drive parking lot. (See detailed directions below.)  The hike will start at 1 pm and we expect to finish at 3:30 pm. while the temperature is at its highest for the day. This will be a moderately brisk hike to keep warm, as the weather will be 45F.  We'll begin the hike near the Chattahoochee River and ascend on a small trail towards Sope Creek, passing by a 19th century family graveyard with moderate climbs. When we reach Sibley pond, we will head towards the old flour mill by Paper Mill Rd. to take a water break and eat our snacks. Then we will proceed by smaller trails towards Sope Creek and will see the old paper mill that was burned by Union forces during the Civil War (a must see) across the creek, to continue back to Cochran Shoals.
