She’ll be Comin’ ’Round the Mountain: Stone Mt. Cherokee Trail Hike

We'll hike the mile Cherokee Trail at a moderate pace.  We'll meet at the bathrooms near Confederate Hall and hike counter-clockwise around the mountain, starting with a walk through the Nature Center and continuing past the lakes and the Grist Mill.  We'll pass the meadow where folks will be gathering for the laser show, and finish back where we started.  

You're welcome to hike up the mountain to watch the sunset after we finish, though this will not be part of our event.  Sunset is at 8:47, so you'll have plenty of time to get to the top in time.  

Directions: To the main entrance- From I-285 take U.S. Hwy 78 East (Snellville/Athens) exit. Travel about 7 miles and take Exit 8, the Stone Mountain Park Main Entrance. After entering the main entrance, proceed straight ahead. The road will fork at about 1 mile – stay to the right. Continue to follow the road for another mile. Confederate Hall will be on your left. The parking lot will be immediately after. We’ll meet behind Confederate Hall near the walk up trail.

If you would like to try the free public parking in Stone Mountain Village, from Hwy 78 take exit 5 and merge onto GA 10. Proceed 0.5 miles to the first exit. At the end of the ramp turn left. Drive about a mile past a gas station and a funeral parlor on your right. When you get to East Mountain Street, turn left. There is a Marta Park & Ride on Fourth Street. Turn right onto Fourth Street and soon thereafter make a left into the parking area.  From there it is a short walk on East Mountain Street. Enter the park through the gate and you'll be at the parking lot where we'll be meeting. The Marta parking lot is a 1/4 mile walk from the bath house.
