Itinerary:

Come join us for a six-mile morning hike at beautiful Stone Mountain Park. We will meet inside the park near the restrooms at the bottom of the walk up trail behind Confederate Hall. The hike will begin at 9:30am so please show up 5 to 10 minutes early. If you don't already have a pass to get into the park, a day pass can be purchased at the gate for $10 or a yearly pass for $35. If you don't want to pay anything, see instructions below for free parking outside the park. (If you park outside the park, give yourself enough time to find the Park-n-Ride lot and at least 15 minutes to make the walk into the park to meet up with the group) **Keep in mind, last week when we did this hike, some AOC members (who tried to park for free) noted that the park had put up some new gates which made it challening to get inside Stone Mountain.**

We do plan to keep a moderate pace with a couple of short rest stops along the way to take pictures.
Total distance: 6.0 miles

We should be done between around noon-ish.

How to Get There:
Event Directions:

Directions: To the main entrance- From I-285 take U.S. Hwy 78 East (Snellville/Athens) exit. Travel about 7 miles and take Exit 8, the Stone Mountain Park Main Entrance. After entering the main entrance, proceed straight ahead. The road will fork at about 1 mile – stay to the right. Continue to follow the road for another mile. Confederate Hall will be on your left. The parking lot will be immediately after. We’ll meet behind Confederate Hall near the walk up trail.

If you would like to try the free public parking in Stone Mountain Village, from Hwy 78 take exit 5 and merge onto GA 10. Proceed 0.5 miles to the first exit. At the end of the ramp turn left. Drive a mile or so, past a gas station and a funeral parlor (both on your right). When you see City Hall turn left. There is a Marta park and ride on fourth street. From there it is a short walk on East Mountain Street. Enter the park through the gate and you'll be at the parking lot where we'll be meeting. The Marta parking lot is about an 10-minute walk from the park.

**Last week when we did this hike, some AOCers said that the park added a gate making it more challenging to get inside the park. Please keep this in mind!**
