Itinerary: | |||||||
This is a repeat performance of this past weekend's wonderful hike with Clay White, however, the pace of this event will be moderate to fast with occassional stops to soak in the spectacular views, catch our breaths and/or peruse the historical placards along the trail. Kennesaw Mountain is a wonderful resource for improving your fitness so that you can advance to the next level of hiking. The mountain offers attractive vistas of the surrounding areas, including the Atlanta sky line. The park also includes information on the historic civil war battle that occurred here. We will cross Kennesaw Mountain, Little Kennesaw Mountain, and Pigeon Hill, then turn around and cross them all again. While this is not a power hike, it will be strenuous, with a few rest breaks, and serious elevation gain. The total distance is between five and six miles. Therefore, you should be in good physical condition to attempt this hike. If you have questions about your ability, it is better to err on the side of caution. We will meet at the visitor's center just outside the lobby for check-in and introductions. Please arrive a few minutes early to allow time for parking. The main parking lot may be full, requiring you to park further away. **Thanks to Danny Llewallyn, the legendary Kennesaw power hiker, from whom I pilfered the map and directions listed below.
