Itinerary: | |||||||
Cherokee Trail runs around Stone Mountain, and is a nice, wooded trail with plenty of lake views. We will hike approximately 6 miles keeping a moderate to fast pace with few rest stops. The direction will be counterclockwise. We will detour crossing the covered bridge to circle the King trail on Indian Island (a loop that Lemmy showed us recently) before we continue back on Cherokee Trail. The meeting point is outside the restrooms at the Confederate Hall (where people climbing the mountain normally start). | |||||||
| |||||||
How to Get There: | |||||||
Event Directions: | Directions: To the rear entrance: From I-285 take U.S. Hwy 78 East (Snellville/Athens) exit. Take Exit 5, stay right for a half mile and then exit to E. Ponce/Stone Mtn. Village. At the end of the ramp turn left. Drive a mile or so into town. Turn left on East Mountain (you will see a German Restaurant on your right) and go straight until you get to the entrance.
