Itinerary:

Join me for a Sunday morning hike at East Palisades section of Chattahooche River National Recreation Area. The weather should be completely bright and sunny at the designated time for this event. We will start early in order to beat the hot and humid weather forecasted. This event will take place as scheduled. So, come ready for rain or shine.

East Palisades is one of the most beautiful of all the CNRA units. Indian Trail offers several miles of trails that connect to a scenic overlook that offers excellent views of the Devil's Racecourse Shoals. The rugged granite palisades were called the Devil's Stairsteps during the 19th century by river boatmen because the shoals "were the devil" to navigate. I can promise you a great hike.  We will hike about five miles of the trails in this section of the Chattahoochee River NRA including sections along the river as well as a few steep, rugged areas.  We will be hiking at a moderate pace. We'll see the observation deck and the cave if all goes well!  And of course, there's the bamboo forest, which should be in their natural green colors - - always an awesome sight, especially for first timers.

Please remember to bring $3 cash for the National Park Service parking fee. Alternatively, it's a better deal to get an annual pass if plan to visit any of the 17 or so Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area parks more than 8 times over the next 12 months. Annual pass cost is $35

If you bring your dog, it should be able to keep up with the group and interact well with other dogs and people. The Chattahoochee NRA requires that owners keep their dogs on a leash and clean up after their pets on the trails. A maximum of four dogs will be permitted on this hike on a first to sign up basis.
